We Believe

Who We Are
We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our religion means a great deal to us and we strive to live up to all of the doctrines we are taught. However, we want to make it completely clear that we are far from perfect but we do our best to learn from our mistakes just as everyone else. I suppose the truth of the matter is that we go to church because we aren’t perfect and we feel a great amount of strength as we attend our church meetings.

Book of Mormon
Typically if you have heard of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you have heard of the Book of Mormon as well. I believe that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. Just as the Bible contains teaching from prophets in the past the Book of Mormon contains the teachings of the prophets from the past who were living on the American continent.
I know that the teachings contained within the Book of Mormon are true. I do not know this simply because I have been told that they are true but because I truly feel to the depths of my heart that they are true. As I read the Book of Mormon is fills me with hope and causes me to desire to be better than I am. I feel closer to God as I read. I feel that anything that cause me to feel this way must be a good thing.
I remember when I was younger that my dad asked me if I knew that the Book of Mormon was true. I wanted so badly to be able to honestly say that I did. I thought the Book of Mormon was true and I had been taught that it was but I honestly did not know for myself that it was. That night I took the opportunity to knell down and ask my Heavenly Father if the Book of Mormon was true. Was it really everything I thought and hoped it was? At that time I was overcome with a peaceful feeling that assured me that the Book of Mormon was true.
I hope that no one has the idea that just because I care so much about the book of Mormon that I do not care about the Bible. I feel that there are many great truths contained within the Bible as well. I have learned so much from the examples of the prophets and other members of God’s church talked about in the Bible. I do not feel that there is a need to decide between one or the other. We are not asked to do that. Instead we are given the opportunity to learn great truths from both of these books. I would invite all to read this book.

Time and All Eternity
We were married in the Idaho Falls Temple where we were sealed for time and all eternity. We believe that our marriage was not intended to just last here upon this earth but instead is designed so that we can be together even after we pass from this life. We look forward to being able to enjoy this great blessing if we live our lives in accordance to the teachings of the gospel to show we are worthy of such a great blessing.

Modern Revelation
Just the other day I was talking to a few of my friends. I was busily unpacking my apartment from our recent move and at this time I was just listening to the conversations. They were talking about how they had, had a “feeling,” to do such and such a thing over the past little while and that when they did these things they realized that it really was important that they did them.
I have been really thinking about this conversation recently and it has caused me to think a lot about modern revelation. I truly do feel that God still speaks to us today. I do know that God the Father and the Son did appear to Joseph Smith just as I know that the Book of Mormon is true; However, I do not want to give anyone the impression that I think that this is how revelation always or even frequently happens. Instead, I feel that revelation can come in much simpler forms as well and I feel that this is how it most often comes. Sometime they come as “feelings,” or thoughts. Often times this revelation come so subtly that it hard to distinguish them from you own thoughts or feelings. I think that this is the way God intends it to be for it requires us to demonstrate the faith necessary to act upon these good feelings and thoughts.
